First Question….

drumm roll

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:01 pm

Why doesn’t CWL use a small gang of volunteers from the forum to proof-read magazine editions before they go to print? I’m sure any such volunteers would be happy to be sworn to secrecy until the magazine is published.

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:02 pm

errors per issue.

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:02 pm

Similarly, why not use volunteers from the forum to review draft watch designs and provide feedback, eg like the recent date wheel color issue on the C60 Vintage?

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:03 pm

Hi everyone, believe it or not we have very few errors per issue and have plenty of people who already check the mag for us. And we don’t want to ruin your fun finding the errors.

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:04 pm

Watches (or anything for that matter) designed by committe often turn out to

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:04 pm

compromises. We don’t want that for ur watches

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:05 pm

We have had some experience designing by committe with the FLE’s

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:05 pm

We are always happy to show designs at an appropriate stage – and perhaps should do more of this – but the start of the process isn’t the place

@ jbader – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:07 pm

There won’t be a new bracelet but we rather fine-tune the buckle which will offer a fine adjustment device

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:07 pm

Glidelock equivalent?!
@
 jbader – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:08 pm

No, I don’t think that we reach quite as far ……

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:08 pm

Related – Why is it that none of the bracelets have half links? Wouldn’t the half links, in conjunction, with micro adjustments allow virtually limitless adjustments?

@ jbader – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:09 pm

Half links are usually not half links because the construction needs to be just like on a ordinary link and so they don’t (mostly) suit the purpose of fine adjustment. We therefore opted for a proper fine adjustment device

@ crag145 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:09 pm

Half links have been requested for years…

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:09 pm

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:14 pm

Next question…Do you have more sub 40mm watches on the drawing board? Would you consider the C11 (MKII) in a smaller case (similar to W11) such as a 36mm since it tends to wear large?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:14 pm

I anticipate a Spring intro

Next question….What do you see as future developments based on the SH21 tractor besides a chronograph? Given that one of the added values of the SH21 movement is the 5 day power reserve, I am surprised that we have not seen a watch with a power reserve indicator (aside from the recently released GT40). A lot of watches with extended power reserve (e.g. IWC, Grand Seiko) make a feature of this.

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:23 pm

JJ all yours

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:23 pm

Is this something the CW has considered and rejected?

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:24 pm

Some view the C8 P7350 the best watch in the collection. However, it is out of the price range of many. Is/would CW consider an everyday ‘working’ C8 watch along the same lines i.e. hand wound, no date or other complications, 42mm+ and preferably an SH21, or at least COSC?

@ JJ01 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:24 pm

power reserve is in the process
@
 jbader – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:24 pm

You will love it, Kip !!!

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:26 pm

power reserve is late spring

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:26 pm

and in the c9 collection

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:27 pm

by the way all sh21 are coscs

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:27 pm

Ok everyone… it is your time. Ask away! Please give our guests time to answer.

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:27 pm

There has been general discussion that watches are going ‘smaller’ again. Do your sales suggest that might be the case? (Personally I love the 42mm size. My C11 Chrono is a wonderful size and a brilliantly thought-out case design)

@ downer – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:28 pm

What is the slimmest case for SH21?
@
 Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:28 pm

watches are getting smaller thats for sure

@ gatehealing – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:28 pm

Any plans to revamp website to match “Rolex of Internet” quality?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:28 pm

but it wont happen overnight

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:29 pm

I ask myself whether I’d want the SH21 in the Trident or stick with the standard movement… a bit like a Sea Dweller/Sub discussion..!

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:29 pm

yes. We will be launching a new site in 2016…and I hope it will be better than Rolex’s which I find awful

@ crag145 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:29 pm

Are you finding it difficult to employ repair/ service staff in the UK.

@ JJ01 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:30 pm

slimmest case for SH21 is 12.2mm in handwind version

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:30 pm

its not that difficult
@
 TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:30 pm

Re size: sounds like a 40mm Trident might be the sensible default size at some stage..? Personally I prefer the 42mm but I recognise it’s not for everyone…

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:30 pm

the real issue is to what standard

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:30 pm

Are there any plans to introduce more exhibition backs across the range? I think it’s a shame that so many of these watches have amazing movements in them that are hidden away. Possibly sacrifice some of the WR of the trident pros to introduce a display back?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:30 pm

For JJ – We know what the SH21 movement is and that it was the 21st design. Is there a caliber variation number for the hand wound (such as SH21-M) and what will determine future variation calibers.

unfortunately Fraser not here… pi dont know how to f=do pics

 JJ01 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:32 pm

@ Proco2020 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:32 pm

I have a question about the GMT hybrid bezel. Why not a “normal” 24hr bezel, and can it be an option? I love my Mk1 GMT and would like to consider a second but not with the hybrid bezel.

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:32 pm

Yes, we will be introducing more ex backs, includimg the new moonphase

@ JJ01 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:32 pm

but they are not on the main plate, cause all movements have the same main plate…..

@ tempus fugit – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:33 pm

re wave v plain

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:37 pm

My C11 has standard-sized leather strap, but the fact that the case is quite large means it wears longer than a lot of watches…

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:38 pm

again in the new c65 thinking we will probably introduce a flat dial variation

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:38 pm

there will be a c8 xs that will fit the c11

@ jbader – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:39 pm

re C60 bracelet retrofit: No, I don’t think it is possible because we need 2 additional holes in the buckle to fix the device, sorry!

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:40 pm

No plans for a C1.

@ gatehealing – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:40 pm

Well dang

@ JJ01 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:40 pm

for chrisedwards: date yes, a kind sweeping of second

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:40 pm

Why are there no model numbers on the watch cases? Do you not think this would be valuable for ID purposes and to collectors in the future?

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:40 pm

The C9 Small-second does the job we feel. Do you?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:40 pm

I do … and we are reviewing the data that

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:40 pm

we put on our watches

@ sadgit – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

Any chance of the return of the “pepsi” bezel on the Trident?

@ downer – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

How about a “travellers” GMT SH21? Is it in the plan? Ever? Please?

@ crag145 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

C1 was a classic in my opinion

@ eggtronics – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

The C60 chrono – why have you decided to use the ETA 7750? I thought a chrono module for the SH21 was under development?
@
 Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

to date we have had no real need form a manufacturing point of view… but as we grow

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

C1 was the worst selling watch we ever had I’m afraid

@ gatehealing – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

Not quite. Subdial hand too plain, and I love the dial colors of orig.

@ JJ01 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

gmt on SH21 is possible but not on the top priority

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:41 pm

we realise there will be a need…also as we get older

@ welshlad – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:42 pm

Re the C60 chrono – do you know what case size and height it will be (given the 7750 is a tall movement)?

@ nathanclarinet – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:42 pm

QC issues highlighted with increasing regularity on the forum. Limited to forum or more widespread?

@ Proco2020 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:42 pm

Why have you dropped the Ladies line, no demand? (my wife loves her watch)

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:42 pm

the c60 chrono in 7750 can be introduced earlier thabn we can complete the sh21

@ gatehealing – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:42 pm

C1 worst selling? Woah! Have any left over then? They seem VERY sought after now?
@

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:43 pm

will c60 chrono keep the day/date complication and running seconds?

@ eggtronics – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:43 pm

OK, so at least the SH21 chrono is still on the books  what’s the timescale for that?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:43 pm

in fact a s a % of sales the qc returns are decreasing in % terms…. but inceasing in actual numbers… this is not surprising as we are experiencing

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:47 pm

17.1m isn’t that big for a watch of this type….must be small in Wales?

@ Satt – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:47 pm

Any more watches that have that c9 Harrison blue LE character in the works?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:55 pm

@ welshlad – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:55 pm

A handwound chronograph would be cool – and thin!

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:55 pm

A recent article on A Blog To Watch examined whether manufacturers should make accuracy claims. While the author was in favour of the practice, one of the main arguments against was the increased cost of warranty service to regulate movements that are out of spec. CW states an accuracy for it’s movements that are in line with the manufacturers specs. Even this is more than most companies are doing today.

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:55 pm

Does the cost of warranty servicing for accuracy add any significant cost to the price of Christopher Ward watches? Is it truly cost prohibitive for manufacturers to warranty the accuracy of watches?

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:55 pm

C60 GMT – We are developing a non-hybrid

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:57 pm

Re accuracy….we always state the accuracy of our watches, proprietary and now in-house. If it’s more expensive we think it’s all part of being transparent and will continue to do so
@
 Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:57 pm

ahhh you mean the indexes not the JH

@ downer – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:57 pm

Here’s a contentious question… When are we getting the 3rd logo – without the CHR???

@ markwarman – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:57 pm

Thanks, looking forward to a non-hybrid on the GMT

@ panos – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:58 pm

I understand if you cannot answer this question but where do you see CW in terms of pricing and your aim of ”putting premium grade watches within the reach of everyone”? Surely you must have been noticed by some of the old big companies with some your models

@ atnits – Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:58 pm

Not contentious at all. Far more people like the logo than dislike it but we never rule out change if we think it’s appropriate.

@ welshlad – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:00 pm

@ panos – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:01 pm

If you develop a GMT version of the SH21, will it work like the current ETA2893 or will it be a “traveller’s” GMT like Rolex/Omega where the hour hand can be change independently without stopping the watch or affecting the GMT hand? I would prefer the latter!

Bluebird have some issues at the moment so we have shelved any more designs for the moment

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:10 pm

teasers…will see what we can do when we get back to blighty

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:10 pm

Thanks Mike. Good % of ETAs still. Not that the customer knows what’s in their watch unless it’s opened (some would like to know I suspect!!)

@ Renton – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:10 pm

Any indication of when C11 Mk2 will be coming our way?

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:10 pm

thanks Chris

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:10 pm

c11….. nothing on the cards right now

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:11 pm

We have noted that the C8 Flyer and C65 rose gold’s have black dials with black date wheels and white on white. You also reacted to the date wheel color reaction when the vintage Tridents were released. Will this change (matching date wheel color) be made to the rest of the C65’s, C60’s and other CWL models where needed or appropriate?
@
 TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:12 pm

+1 re ‘Traveller’s’ GMT where hour hand moves independently. Excellent. Thanks JJ.

@ markwarman – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:12 pm

An interesting hour, my first time on one of these and as a CW fan – Brilliant. Look forward to seeing the non-hybrid GMT and the C60 Chrono. All the best M

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:13 pm

Where appropriate we will definitely have black date wheels but actually many black dials look more aesthetically pleasing with white. For instance, Rolex, Omega etc..

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:13 pm

Many noticed that not only has the C60 case size been increased to 43mm on your website, so has the C65’s case size. So it cannot be due to the C60’s bezel being bigger. Has the case for both models always been closer to 43mm, or are you using a new, bigger case now?
@
 TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:14 pm

Quite a few Omegas have black date background…

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:15 pm

re date wheel

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:15 pm

The old case was slighty smaller but hands up here, we should have described the MK2 as 43mm from the start.

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:15 pm

they do…but not always…as Mike says there are no rules around this stuff

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:15 pm

just personal preference

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:16 pm

yes

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:16 pm

C60 chrono – my final question promise! – will subdials be at 12 9 & 6 or 3, 6, & 9? or neither?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:16 pm

12 9 6

@ Serlo – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:16 pm

Why don’t you include details on the lug to lug measurements on the website. I think that this is more indicative whether a watch will fit than the diameter.

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:16 pm

great, with date?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:16 pm

and there will be an interesting take on it

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:17 pm

Will the watch service pod case be made available for purchase or another case similar to that of the Oakley watch vault?

@ crag145 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:18 pm

Popular though with the younger future market Chris

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:19 pm

But who would want to be a member of a club that allows Kip to join:)

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:19 pm

dont see why not…. how mich?

@ gatehealing – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:19 pm

any plans for dressy tritium watch? Not with squared hands, but slender pointed ones etc

@ Peter Ellis – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:19 pm

Slow down Kip. Sore fingers here

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:19 pm

@
 chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

Got me Mike.

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

Dressy tritium? Surely a sports watch feature?

@ hsukirk – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

I will join the Asian side of club. Kip is in global one.

@ Bahnstormer_vRS – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

Like the sound, much earlier in the chat, of SH21 going into C8 Flyer. You’ve taken C8 Spitfire and given us C8 Flyer. Any similar plan for the C9 GT40 getting a ‘regular’ version?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

£10 plus postage …ok then…say yes and i will do it

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

Sorry Kip:)
@
 welshlad – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

The service pods sell for >£40 on eBay, so you’d sell loads at £10. Do it!

@ hsukirk – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:20 pm

Yes here re travel pod.

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:21 pm

yes!

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:21 pm

our pods…£40???

@ gatehealing – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:21 pm

Not dressy per se, just best word I can find. Just not blocky hands.

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:21 pm

am in the wrong game

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:21 pm

GT40….very much in mind to introduce a non TMB version as reaction has been fantastic to the current model
@
 sproughton – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:21 pm

Definitely the travel case is a good idea

@ Bahnstormer_vRS – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:22 pm

GT40 – great news; thanks

@ Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:22 pm

Are the hands on the cosc trident constructed from one or two pieces? It appears that they are two minus the second hand. If two, what is the reasoning?

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:22 pm

have to say I love the look of the GT40 but the LE is out of my price range so a non LE would be extremely attractive!
@
 Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:23 pm

jorg on the hands

@ JJ01 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:23 pm

minute and hour from one piece, second is two pieces

@ welshlad – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:23 pm

Any plans to offer a watch with a classic date pointer, that points to the date on an outer circle on the dial? Maybe the moonphase has this?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:24 pm

moon phase does not…..

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:24 pm

we dont have one yet…
@
 Kip – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:24 pm

Any developments regarding a ceramic orange bezel?

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:24 pm

but Adrian is looking at possible date variations on the date pointer

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:25 pm

ceramic orange – nope

@ ianblyth – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:25 pm

Ceramic teal?

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:25 pm

I like the idea of a sporty moon phase – for example, a C60 look but with moon phase complication – this goes against all the grains I would assume, but may be worth investigating to see if there is a market for it!

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:25 pm

the problem is

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:25 pm

getting the right orange is difficult to do

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:25 pm

we have tried and failed

@ Christopher Ward – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:26 pm

but havent given up

@ CHZacc – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:27 pm

any plans for a ‘build your own watch’ type function for the webpage?

@ crag145 – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:27 pm

Not sure that’s the right combo

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:27 pm

Yes

@ jbader – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:27 pm

Kip: Re orange ceramic. We got samples but a nice clear orange is very hard to achieve. So we still challenge the supplier to improve and hopefully on one of the forthcoming visits we may get there.

@ TimR – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:27 pm

Bezel colour very important to get spot on. Maroon Tudor Black Bay looks nicer to me than CW maroon; but only seen the CW on a screen..?

@ ianblyth – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:28 pm

Werewolf basketball. Can only be played at full moon.

@ gatehealing – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:28 pm

You mean configure you cw? Not design your own, right?

@ welshlad – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:28 pm

There are chronograph moonphases that are sporty, e.g. speedmaster. If do handwound it would be nice and slim too!
@
 CHZacc – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:28 pm

yes configure

@ mikefrance – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:28 pm

yes, we are lookinga at a way we can allow the customers to build their own watches from our various compnents

@ chrisedwards – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:28 pm

I can’t wear a dress watch, but I like something a bit more interesting (hence GMT C60, makaira, speed hawk being my go-tos) – it would be unique, for sure!

@ CHZacc – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:29 pm

great thanks

@ markwarman – Wed Sep 09, 2015 9:29 pm
